DIY Gift Wrapping Ideas
1. Boho Style Gift Wrapping
tikkido

My daughter picked out some fun boho style accessories for her friend’s birthday gift, and I was immediately inspired to do a fun gift-wrapping project. “I’ll wrap the present,” my daughter said, “No! I have and IDEA!” I replied, and totally took over the task. I used mixed materials, a variety of textures, and soft, natural colors seemed perfect for this project. I used only items that I already had in my extensive selection of craft supplies, which included leather, lace, feathers, and flowers… All very Rock and Roll Boho chic. He friend went crazy and loved the gift.
2. Gold Tipped Paper Feathers
liagriffith

My paper feathers are an oldie but a goodie and for the first time, our poster is sharing the SVG file for this design so that you can print and cut them at home on your cutting machine – hooray! It’s a simple design which is brought to life by scoring the center line and adding the gold leaf tips – aren’t they gorgeous? We discovered this gold leaf pen recently and have been adding a little glam to anything we can get our hands on ever since. It’s super-simple to use, especially on paper projects like this and is the perfect way to dress up your DIY.
3. Easy Colorful Gift Wrap

I would never buy a gift wrap at all because simply put I never like the selection of papers that I ‘ve seen in the market and the ones that struck a chord with me were not in my budget. I don’t know what took me so long to make my own. A little inspiration from my creative friends and I finally gave in. And now I plan to whip up a whole stock of them with different colors and abstract shapes so that the next time I am not short of making my presents special and I will make a stack of pom poms to use as bows, so cute! 😉

5. Woven Gift Wrap
minieco

The kids needed something to do on their snow day and I noticed that the woven gift topper I saw last year was doing the rounds again on Pinterest so I thought I would make an updated pastel version (pastels seem to be the new neon at the moment. I bought some quilling strips (0.5cm) to use this time which reduces the labor by about half. This project looks amazing and will keep the kids busy for hours.
6. Natural Gift Wrap with Berry Sprigs
createcraftlove

Kraft paper, twine and a bundle of greenery, and the plainest brown package on the table turns into the prettiest one. The smart part of createcraftlove’s natural gift wrap is a scrap of felt. You hot glue the pine cone, the greenery and the berry sprig onto the felt first, then attach that one tidy piece to the package instead of wrestling six loose bits into place one at a time. The post admits the berries are faux, which I appreciate, because real berries and paper are not friends for long. I always have an herb garden going, so I’d tuck a rosemary sprig in with them and let the whole thing smell as good as it looks. There’s a little star made from five sticks and some twine on that post too, and it costs you a walk around the yard.
8. Creative Gift Wrapping With Scotch Tape
thelovelydrawer

Need a quick DIY gift idea with a printable download? With a little help from Scotch Tape and their large selection of supplies and a little DIY idea to boot, I’m ready and armed with what I need. Do you ever think about the tape you use? Perhaps you’ve only noticed what a big difference it makes when you’ve picked up some non-brand in a hurry and realized it doesn’t actually do its job for more than a few minutes? So many tapes don’t seem to work in harmony with textured gift wrap, especially not anything involving dreaded glitter! It’s a case of waking up on Christmas morning and all your presents are unwillingly unwrapped in a weird, slow-paced reveal, lead by that tape that refuses to do its job. Scotch Tape has a variety of tapes for different uses so you can be assured they actually do the job they’re meant to and to keep things jolly they’ve all been given elf characters for Christmas. Whether it’s multipurpose tape for wrapping odd shapes, crystal shine, invisible tape that seamlessly blends in with your wrap, strong double sided or decorative tape to jazz up your gift giving there’s something for everyone.
9. DIY Yarn Tassel Gift Topper
erinspain

Ribbon is the thing you always think you have plenty of, right up until you are wrapping the last three gifts at midnight. This is the fix. Wind twine or yarn around a small piece of cardboard (erinspain used the cardboard back of a Sharpie package, which is exactly the kind of resourceful I respect), leave a long tail at the top, cut the loops along the bottom edge, then wrap that tail around the neck and knot it into a little loop. Trim the ends even, thread a strand through the loop, and it ties onto a package, a place card, a cabinet knob or a tree branch. Handmade, free, and I like it more than another store-bought bow.
10. Cozy Gift Bag From An Old Sweater
shopgirlmaria

When I saw this amazing idea on Pinterest, it struck number one in my all time DIY gift wrap hall of fame. Old sweaters, yes old sweaters make the coolest gift bags. They look all warm and cozy, perfect for Christmas and so easy. To make these, start by cutting your sweater pieces. For each bag, cut two pieces (mine were 6×10 inches big each) and hem the top parts that will be the bag opening. Then, place the two sweater pieces together with the outside sides facing each other, and either sew the three sides that you didn’t hem together or glue them together using some hot glue. Then, turn the bags inside out, fill them with candy or whatever else you want to stuff them with, add some ribbon and whatever embellishments you are using (attach them to the ribbon using hot glue) and you are done!

18. Cardboard Tube Pillow Boxes
craftsbyamanda

Remember this one when the gift is small and awkward and no box in the house fits it. You cover a cardboard tube with scrapbook paper, tuck the gift inside in tissue paper, fold one side of the end down, fold the other side over it and tape it so nobody can peek. Same thing at the other end, then wrap a ribbon around the middle and tie it. That is a pillow box, and it cost you a paper towel tube. The version on craftsbyamanda uses a patterned paper, but the technique does not care what you cover it with, so pick a paper that matches whatever the occasion is. Crease those folds hard. Lazy folds pop back open in the gift bag.

30. DIY Pom Pom Flamingo Gift Topper
swoodsonsays

A yarn pom pom body, pipe cleaners bent into a neck and legs, and now there is a flamingo standing on top of a present, which is a hard thing to be grumpy about. It is not published as a gift wrap project, but tie one on with twine and it absolutely is one. Nothing fancy is required either: wind the yarn, tie it off tight through the middle, cut the loops and trim it into a ball, using a pom pom maker or a fork or your own hand. Two tips from swoodsonsays worth stealing. Count your wraps if you want two poms to match, and use sharp scissors, because dull ones fight you the whole way. The tiny poms are the hardest to get even, so make your first one big.

37. Pineapple Gift Box
thatswhatchesaid

Not wrapping paper this time, an entire pineapple. thatswhatchesaid turned a plain oval paper mache box into one, with yellow paint, brown crisscross lines and green craft foam leaves hot glued to the base of the box, not the lid, or your pineapple never opens. Here is the step people skip: paint it white first, then two coats of yellow. Yellow is the worst offender for going streaky. Draw the crisscross freehand and do not fuss over it. Real pineapples are not neat either.
