Hanging Beach Chair Caddy – Printable Sewing Pattern

If your beach bag is basically a black hole – sunscreen at the bottom, phone somewhere under a towel, book bent in half – and you love to sew, this beach chair caddy is for you. This is Sueeye’s free pattern for a folding beach chair caddy that wraps right over the arm of any folding chair and puts everything within reach: a pocket sized for your sunscreen, one for your beach read, and one for your phone. Store whatever you like in those pockets!

Easy Hanging Beach Chair Caddy — follow the full step-by-step tutorial below.

My favorite part? A hidden zipper pocket on the back that keeps your phone and keys out of the sun (and out of sight while you’re in the water). It velcros around the chair rail so it won’t slide off or blow away, and it’s all straight cuts and straight stitching — even beginners can whip this up in an afternoon. Grab two fun canvas prints, some bias binding and the free printable pattern below, and let’s get sewing! It’s a cute summer project and great to make before vacation or before a friend of yours goes on a trip. I had so much fun finding patterned fabric for this – I hope you do, too!

The project

  • Beach/folding chair caddy, finished approx. 14″W × 10″H
  • Wraps over the armrest (or chair-back rail) — a flap folds over and velcros to the back, clamping around the rail so it can’t slide or blow off
  • Fits any standard folding beach chair, regular folding chair

One seam finishes every raw edge

Pockets

  • 3 front pockets with box pleats so they expand: 4″ sunscreen, 6″ paperback, 4″ phone.
  • Hidden full-width zip pocket on the chair-facing side, covered by the flap — keeps phone/keys/cash out of sight and, with optional reflective lining (Insul-Bright or a windshield-shade offcut), out of the heat

Skill + time

  • Beginner: straight cuts, straight stitching, bias binding, one easy topstitched zipper (no tricky install)
  • Every piece is a rectangle — only one template, a corner-curve, printed at 100% on letter paper
  • No seam allowances to track: all edges finished with bias binding in one pass
  • Realistic afternoon project

Supplies Needed

  • Two contrast canvas/home-decor fabrics (5/8 yd + a fat quarter), lining 5/8 yd
  • 14″ nylon coil zipper, 12″ of 1.5″ sew-on velcro, 3 yds of 1/2″ double-fold bias binding
  • Optional fusible fleece if your canvas is lightweight
