Easy Prairie Flower Quilt

Sewing flowers definitely lifts my mood! This easy prairie flower quilt by Missouri Star is a pattern you surely want to keep on your list. It may look complicated, but once you do it step by step, you’ll realize it’s super easy to make. Read on or watch the video below for full instructions.

Materials:

  • 1 pack (42 pieces) of 10″ squares
  • 3 1/4 yards background
    • cut into 22 pieces of 2 1/2″ strips, then into 2 1/2″ squares
    • cut 5″ strips, then into 5″ squares to make 20 pieces
  • 1/4 yard cornerstones
  • 1 and 1/2 yards for the border
  • 3/4 yards for binding

Instructions:

Step 1:

Pick 2 squares from your pack in contrasting colors. Place them on top of each other, then cut them into 5″ squares.

Step 2:

Take the 2 1/2″ background squares, fold them in half diagonally, and press with an iron.

Step 3:

Decide which print from the squares you want for the corner. Take two background squares and place them on opposite corners of the print. Sew on the line and trim just above the sewn line. Do it on the other side, then press out the corners so they lay nice. Repeat for the remaining 5″ pieces with the same print.

Step 4:

Make the petal squares. Take the other square and 2 1/2″ squares. Place one square on the top corner, then sew on the crease. Trim just above the sewn line. Repeat for the other top corner. Press it with an iron. Do the same for the remaining 5″ squares.

Step 8:

Arrange 4 blocks in a row, then put the sashings between each piece. Next, put the sashings on the bottom and the cornerstones between each piece. Make 5 rows for the whole quilt.
