4. Boxwood Wreath Garland St Patricks Day Mantle
A Wonderful Thought

This one swaps the shaped topiary for an actual boxwood wreath, and I think it’s even prettier with that paper shamrock made from rolled book pages in the middle of it. She layered the wreath over a DIY tobacco basket on a shiplap backdrop, then let a ticking stripe fabric shamrock garland drape along the mantel edge with a wood bead garland running under it. Tying twine around a stack of vintage-look books she made by tearing off the covers is such a smart trick, and it didn’t cost her a dime since they’d been sitting unused in a box. A few sprigs tucked into votive holders finish off the green. A Wonderful Thought has the full mantel tour.

14. Fabric Shamrock Banner
Crafting Cheerfully

Doing this in fabric rather than paper is the whole point, because it comes back out every March instead of going in the bin on the eighteenth. Three green prints cut as shamrocks and stitched around the edge hang from wooden clothespins on plain twine, and those clothespins are the genuinely useful bit: the same length of twine takes hearts in February and pumpkins in October. It suits a mantel, a stair rail or a window, and it eats up the green scraps already in the bag. Crafting Cheerfully has the tutorial.

19. Shamrock and Pom Pom Garland
My Love 2 Create

This is the piece that does the most work for the least effort on a St. Patrick’s Day mantel. Green shamrock cutouts alternate with chunky green and white pom poms along a run of twine, and a Get Lucky sign sits in the middle so your eye lands somewhere. What we like about it is the scale. The pom poms are big enough to read from across a room, which is where most small holiday garlands fall down. It packs flat in a shoebox and comes out again every March. My Love 2 Create has the full tutorial with her shamrock template.
20. Wine Cork Shamrock
Green With Decor

Meg has been collecting wine corks for years and this is the project that finally puts a dent in the jar. The corks stand on end in three round clusters for the leaves and a short line for the stem, and only the tops get painted green, so you still see natural cork around the sides. That contrast is what makes it look deliberate rather than crafty. It is light enough to lean against a wall on a mantel or a shelf, and it stores flat for next year. Green With Decor has the full tutorial including the glue she recommends.
21. Paper Shamrock Wreath
The Best Ideas for Kids

Everything here is paper, glue and a length of ribbon, which is why it is the one to make with children in the room. Green shamrocks in several patterns get overlapped around a ring so they read as one wreath rather than a row of cutouts, and a bow at the top hides where the circle joins. Mixing plain, striped and polka dot papers is what keeps it from looking flat. It weighs almost nothing, so a single hook or a strip of tape will hold it on a door. The Best Ideas for Kids has the tutorial.
